Us army just released what essentially osndescibed in the field service regulations as the philosophy of “mission command” To the doctrine of “mission command”. I was taught this as a new LT in OCS. I saw this excellent editorial to the new mission command doctrine that there is almost an ironic shift to centralized or “detailed command” with the advent of new ISIR technology. Commanders have better awareness and are forcing decisions at higher levels where they should be at a lower level. I.E. division commanders authorizing artillery when it could or should be the ground commander: platoon leader on patrol.
