Jocko,
Im a regular listener of your podcasts and just finished listening to 232 and 233. I think you would find the story of Australian Lieutenant Harry “Breaker” Morant very interesting and a good follow on from 232 and 233. Lt Morant was a member of the Australia Light Horse called the Bush Velt Carbineers who fell under the command of Lord Kitchener. As detailed in 232 and 233, the British Army were still using poor tactics and loosing 1000s of troops. Morant recognized this and began to implement new tactics, in many cases coping those of the Boers. Lt Morant always claimed he was acting on Kitchener’s orders, but for political reasons Kitchener denied this. Morant’s tactics were successful, but ultimately he was Courts Martialed and executed along with Lt Peter Handcock. I suppose the main lesson it is great to think outside the box, but be careful going against the establishment! There is a movie about “Breaker Morant”. Although a more accurate version would be the book “Shoot Straight, You Bastards” by Nick Bleszynski.
