Jocko: Just finished reading your book “Extreme Ownership.” After retiring from the insurance brokerage industry (NYC) for 25 years, I’ve had a lot of time to catch up on my reading. Your book was fabulous and had I still been working, I would have purchased a copy for every employee that reported to me at the time. You remind me of my Dad, a great Marine who fought in World War II (Okinawa and Saipan). Thank you for your years of service, and wonderful dedication to helping others. I will continue learning as I only turn 67 this year!! All the best to you.
Maslow was proven to be incorrect in his attribution of needs, though he made a valuable contribution to the field. Studies by Anna Freud and Ainsworth in and , more recently, nitro imaging have demonstrated that without love and attention to emotional and psychological needs, humans and primates will fail to thrive and even have significant neurodevelopmental deficits. I love your podcast and thank you for your service to our country!
Maslow was proven wrong in his attribution of needs by Anna Freud and Ainsworth and, more recently by neuro imaging that love and attention to emotional and psychological needs are just as important as food, water, safety and shelter. Without them, animals and primates fail to thrive and have significant neurological damage. I love your podcast and thank you for your service to our country!
I listen to your podcast as I train for a marathon…game of fitness. As you state, I am in multiple “games”….wife, mom, career, faith, fitness and friends/connection…and that you can be winning in a few of them, but that it’s incredibly difficult to be winning at them all. Laser focus on one and you’ll start to falter in another area. It’s all a balancing act and we’re constantly trying to adjust.

Listening to the section regarding high ranking officers retiring from the military hit home. I am a career law enforcement officer and I have seen many of my peers leave the organization unprepared for what lies after retirement. I believe that this is caused by a lack of balance in their lives. Many people don’t realize that they are playing multiple games and don’t put the proper amount of effort into other parts of their lives. Many times their families are where they are not putting enough effort into that game. It is imperative that we (regardless of occupation) understand that our organizations don’t care about us. Individuals inside these organizations certainly do, but the organization is forging ahead and the moment that one goes out the door, they are no longer relevant to the organization, thus not important. Our families need more of our attention and we need to play that game better!
I continue to learn a lot and you have helped me remain on the path for several years and have changed my life in the process. I may not agree with all of your thoughts and viewpoints but I can appreciate your viewpoint and your experiences. I have a learned a lot in the process and continue to promote your Podcast.

Great episode! It highlights how life is a constant “game” happening all around us — urging awareness, discipline, and readiness to act. A motivating reminder to stay focused and play smart every day.
Powerful message here. This felt less like motivation and more like a reality check about discipline and mindset. Definitely one of those episodes you think about afterward. When I need to switch off for a bit, hdobox.su is where I usually watch a movie.
Very insightful conversation. Ryan Holiday does a great job making Stoic principles easy to understand and apply, especially around leadership and mindset. Content like this adds real value. When I’m taking a mental break, honistaapp.com.co is one of my go-to sites.
