I went to college with a guy who was a C.O. he gave a speech in class once about it, he wouldnt go into detail about what his role was but he said he couldnt look down the scope and pull the trigger anymore. Found jesus and asked to be released from duty. He said he had to get paperwork (a letter from his comanding officer) and after it went through he was sent home. When he left the seevice as a C.O. it was after dessert storm (all tue details he would give us)
Jocko,
I sincerely enjoyed your interview with Dave Hall. My father was a draftee combatant in Vietnam (1/26th, 1st Division, July-Nov 1967). His unit was stationed in the area Dave talked about around An Loc and the Michelin rubber plantation. On November 7th, 1967 my father’s unit was ambushed in the plantation, and he was wounded with a gunshot through his left arm. Luckily, he was safely evacuated, and has since led a great life. A good read about the ambush is “Common Valor, Ambush at Srok Rung” by S.T. Simms. Thank you for the great podcast and keep up the good work!
Episode 150 – Conscientious Objectors
My uncle Bob Wilson was a field medic in Vietnam, also a draftee. He was a conscientious objector due to his religious beliefs as a 7th Day Adventist. Like many V. Vets he suffered PTSD in silence, was an alcoholic, never spoke about the war except some experiences he shared with my mom as they were very close up until his death from lung cancer, which the VA told him most likely was due to his exposure to Agent Orange. Your interview with Dave Hall was terrific and made me think so much of my uncle. What absolute unsung heroes.
I’m drinking the Molk, taking the Super Krill and Joint Warfare, most of the way through your book Extreme Ownership, have recommended your kids books to several friends with kids and drink the White Tea (both bags and cans). Your 4am club BS continues to both motivate and piss me off.
I can’t thank you enough for your service to our country and continued service through your podcast content. Well done and please keep it coming!
Excellent episode lads
Just getting to this one. And the final thoughts and take away’s are as GOOD as the meat of the podcast. I am going to continue to educate my 7 year old warrior kid daughter about being strong, specifically how if weak food is in the fridge, we become weak!
