Hello guys, I found out about the Jocko Podcast when Dakota Meyer mentioned it on Joe Rogan a month or so ago and I have been a huge fan ever since, however, episode 202 takes it to a whole new level. My two sons, ages 8 and 15, and I listen every day on the way to and from school and this one really hit home. It is a history lesson in itself and the way you let Mr. Ladd speak and add his own thoughts made it even more special. I just wanted to say thank you for doing what you guys do and providing a glimpse into history for not only me but my two sons as well. Call me crazy but I still like to hold an actual book in my hands now and then but your podcast has provided a foundation to start discussions with the younger generation who may not have the opportunity to learn in such detail what kind of sacrifices were made on our country’s behalf from previous generations. Thanks again guys and please keep them coming. Stay safe.
Umm… Probably the cutest moment when Ladd starts telling you how amazing Amazon is! Thanks for everything you do your podcast is helping me to be a better leader/person and it has increased my appreciation for our country and our military. Thank you.
Jocko, Brilliantly done and led discussion on Ladd’s book. Man, I love when you read the book on air. Very impactful. Another great job with kristie Ennis and Ryan Manion. You can quit now because I keep buying these damn books and have no idea how I’m going to get through them all.
simply amazing podcast. Listening from NZ. thanks guys that’s all i can say thanks to all, for their sacrifice.
Hello Guys,
Just wanted to say 202 was an interesting podcast.
I’m not sure how you managed to helm that ship and bring it home Jocko, but I am guessing it was a very draining affair.
I was exasperated with the incredible amount of interruptions from Mr. Ladd.
His service and history are worthy of respect without question.
However, I found myself wishing he would quit interrupting , as you read from the book.
It spoiled the whole flow of the podcast.
I guess, in the words of Les Claypool and Primus, “They can’t all be zingers”
Looking forward to the next edition.
You Guys Rock.
Hey Bob, it sounded to me like the Lt Col was remembering the events like they were yesterday. I think jocko did a great job by not stopping him. To me it added to the listening experience. And in any case, I think there was enough respect there to let him say whatever he wanted. I’ve listened twice now and have added it as one of my favourites. Have another listen from my perspective, I bet you’ll see it completely differently
Liam,
I will probably give it another listen down the road. I tend to listen to the podcasts more than once.
Would never expect Jocko to interrupt a guest, especially of Mr. Ladd’s caliber.
It was more along the lines of wishing he would let Jocko finish reading how awesome he is, THEN add some flavor to the story.
I may be wrong, it’s been known to happen. Thanks for the reply
Mr. Gallagher, I thought the same thing, but did some quick math, then looked up Mr. Ladd’s date of birth. This Marine, this incredible man is 98 years old! Put in that context, sure, some of his conversational etiquette may have declined with age. He is incredibly well spoken, alert and still has a great memory. Thank God that we still have the opportunity to hear this man’s story –from his first hand account. 98 years old! “Holy Smokes,” as he said.
Mr. McBain,
I completely agree. It is a privilege to hear the history from the people who lived it.
I can only hope to be that coherent and well spoken should that age ever be attained!
Thanks for the reply.
I worked with Dean Ladd at Lockheed , 1962 on, I retired in 1991. He lived in Monte Sereno, I lived in Los Gatos, we car pooled to work together. His wife, Vera had a secretarial service in Los Gatos and did work for separate business I had. I am only 92.
DON WW 2 VET
Great podcast, as per usual! Keep the juice flowing!!! ???? ???? ????
Thank you Jocko. As a long time admirer of the battles of Guadalcanal, this episode with a real life veteran should be part of a war museum. Many thanks from Aussie Matt.
That’s great, Jocko. This conversation with a genuine Guadalcanal soldier would be a fantastic addition to any museum dedicated to the events of that day. Sincerely, an Aussie Matt.
I love it. I with my friends always listen to it in our freetime. That’s great!
This is good blog, I will follow you and share it for may friends. Many interesting information in here.
