Notes to your listener with the question “How to hold workout discipline when you have a hard physical job and kids, facing burn-out?”
1: Consider upping your calorie intake. While quality of food is important, when I worked 15 hour days on a construction site and rock climbed with every free moment, I found that the only way to sustain my energy levels was to eat more than what made me full and to do so frequently (more than three times per day). Important to note that this was high quality food.
2: Pick a workout plan that is also an activity that you’re passionate about and stimulates your imagination. For me, this was rock climbing. Instead of being a grind that I would dread at the end of a long work day, I’d look forward to it, itching for the day to be over so I could engage in my passion. Find your passion and do it, this alone will boost energy, as most burn out comes from the mind.
3: Meditate, meditate, meditate. Meditation will not only help you stay in touch with yourself and your passions, which will infuse you with energy, it will improve the quality of your sleep, and thus provide direct energetic increases into your body. Awareness feeds passion, passion feeds energy, energy feeds awareness. Let the cycle begin.
Stay passionate, stay aware, and stay strong. Good luck!
Podcast #6 is no longer available. Can we get that back? Ty!
I just started Jiu Jitsu and am loving it! Thanks for sharing!
Great bite size clip for suicide prevention/awareness with the last question. I’ve never gone down that path, but with most of the lessons you talk about it this can be applied to all aspects of life. At 2:03:38, it just references the “enemy” and at the time I listened to the podcast my enemy was cancer. Hearing your perspective was very helpful. At that time my mother in law was diagnosed with late stage pancreatic cancer, my wife was going to have a lump biopsied for breast cancer, and I was being treated for thyroid cancer. My family is headed back to the light – my mother in law’s pain and life has ended, but my wife and I are cancer free. Thank you for sharing your knowledge!!
I have been listening to ep. 86 where instilling pride is discussed. two books by Col. David Hackworth are mentioned. I am having trouble catching the second title. The first title is Steel My Soldiers’ Hearts. I have been unable to find any titles attributed to Col. David Hackworth that seem to match up with the second title. Does anyone know what the second title by Col. David Hackworth is?
